In just a few minutes we are leaving to participate in Portland's annual Race for the Cure.

I walk in memory of my mother's BEST FRIEND, Marcye Herring. She passed away in 1999 after a 7 year struggle with Breast Cancer. My mom was friends with her since long before I was born, therefore was a part of my life from the very beginning. I'm so lucky to still have the piano she gave me.

RIP Marcye. <3

Also in CELEBRATION of my grandmother and aunt. Congrats on winning the fight!!!

I just lost 2 friends to Breast Cancer, Kerri Burlew and Tina Roberts.
First Tina on 4/15/10 the 2 days later Kerri. I spent months caring for Kerri. I never knew anyone like her and probably never will again in this life time

In honor an in memory of, Henrietty "Hetty". 1957 - 2012

To a friend who was here much too short of time. She was current president of our historical and genealogical society (scchgs.org) and left her mark on our hearts.

3/19/12

The Dash
by Linda Ellis

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her memorial
From the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came the date of her birth
And spoke of the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth
And now only those who love her
Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own,
The cars...the house...the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

This poem continues but this is the part I cherish and I know Henrietta spent her dash with laughs, loves of family and friends. She was a special person to me even though we had only a few years together, she was full of life to the max. Missing her will be very hard for me. Her work and name will be listed in our society's collection forever.
God Bless. Trina Gentry, Past President, '07'09, SCCH&GS.
