How do you help your children through the death of their father? He was our Rock!! Everything in life was wonderful when they went to school that day, and just an hour later their lives were torn apart. My husband, (the sweetest man in the world) was killed in a horrible car accident, just 61 days ago. We have 4 children. My 6 year old little girl is having the worst problems this week. Horrible nightmares. Tears flowing down her face as she tosses and turns all night. She talks about Daddy all the time. Wants to know all about Heaven. She says she's lonely all the time, unless I'm holding her. She doesn't want to go to school. She's afraid I will die too. She understands we have a Loving, Caring God and that He is always with us, but how can I give her some peace in her heart?

I just wanted to send you and your kids a hug. Loss is so hard but for children it's impossible to grasp. My son has been through 2 major losses in 2 years, nothing like a Dad but a special great uncle and my brother his uncle. This might help your kids. Get balloons in Dad's favorite color or favorite team color(we do Yankees) let them write or scrimble their own message in markers, then kiss it with them and let it go. Tell them it's going to heaven for daddy and watch it rise until it's gone. It may help them, it's helped my son.
My deepest sympathy.
Renee

Big warm hugs to you...and your children..

My dad passed away on the 19th march aged 59, I am 31 and my children are 8,5,1..

My dad took over the role of the their father as well as being their grandfather for much of their lives as my husband does very long hours..Dad taught my boys so much...

My dad was our everything and he did everything for us...Its a great whole that can never be filled by anyone... we will never understand how or why and coming to terms with it? i am taking more steps back than forward, i feel as though everyday its a battle to go on....

But we are survivers and i beleive Dad is waiting for us to met him again one day...

Rose, Loss of father is very tough for children and its really bad time for them. I m so sorry that your children going through this grief. Every child need father in whole life. My friend lost his father some years ago and it was so bad time for him. He felt alone without his father and he difficult to move on. I think grief counseling groups are best for deal with it. I pray to God for you and your children. You are always in my thoughts.
